Adele hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time on Oct. 24, after being the musical guest twice in the past. If there were any questions as to whether she’d be as funny as she is vocally talented, the superstar quickly offered an answer in her monologue.
The British singer, whose career began a major ascent after she made her SNL debut 12 years ago, admitted that she knew nothing about U.S. politics and didn’t want to say anything political. So what’d she do? She gave a shoutout to Sarah Palin, who appeared on that very episode with her. “Sarah Palin, babes, thanks for everything, yeah?” Adele cracked.
As for her weight loss, she joked, “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me, but actually, because of all the COVID restrictions and the travel bans, I had to travel lighter and only bring half of me, and this is the half that I chose.”
The laughs didn’t stop there — for the audience or the 15-time Grammy winner herself — when the actual sketches kicked off. In “The Bachelor” sketch, she played a version of herself who was immediately smitten with bachelor Ben K, and would break out into song — her hit songs! — at every imagined slight. Then in “Africa Tourism,” Adele enjoyed the jokes so much that she broke character and kept cracking up.

For SNL’s Halloween episode, John Mulaney and The Strokes both return for the fourth time.
