Guitar hero Peter Frampton has hit back at Kim Kardashian West’s birthday posts as out of touch and “insensitive.”
Kardashian celebrated her 40th with what appeared to be the party to top them all, judging by the string of photos she shared on social media.
In one message, she writes, “We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians celebrity pumped out a parade of snaps, showing off her well-heeled friends and family enjoying carefree days at a resort.
The images struck a bum note with social media users. Many have accused Kardashian of failing to read the room, for pushing out her happy snaps during a raging pandemic, as her husband Kanye West campaigns in an election that’s divided a nation, while millions have lost their livelihoods due to the pandemic and many millions more face a harsh winter.
Frampton was one of many.
“Are you that insensitive you don’t realise this is not what the majority of people during the worst covid spike yet want to hear? People are going to food banks not private islands,” he tweeted.
A Grammy winner and regular collaborator with the late David Bowie, Frampton set the sales charts alive in the 1970s with Frampton Comes Alive!, a double album that took the industry by surprise and triggered a pop-culture avalanche.
To this day, it’s one of the best-selling live albums in the United States.
