NLE Choppa Leads Emerging Artists Chart as ‘Shotta Flow 5′ Hits Hot 100

NLE Choppa logs a record-extending 18th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart (dated June 27), powered by his tracks “Walk Em Down,” featuring Roddy Ricch, and “Shotta Flow 5.”

“Walk Em Down” enters the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, rising from No. 44 to No. 38 with 13 million U.S. streams, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It also drew 6.9 million in radio audience in the tracking week and hits new highs on Rhythmic Songs (up 26-22) and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (32-28).

The rapper’s new track “Shotta Flow 5″ debuts at No. 54 on the Hot 100 (13.4 million U.S. streams), marking his sixth career entry.

Dating to the Emerging Artists chart’s launch in September 2017, the rapper’s 18 weeks at No. 1 outpace his closest competitor, Lauv, with 14.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Just outside the Emerging Artists chart’s top 10, Washington D.C.-based punk supergroup Coriky debuts at No. 11, fueled by its self-titled first EP, which arrives at No. 26 on the Top Album Sales chart with 3,000 copies sold. The act comprises Ian MacKaye, who is also a member of Fugazi, Minor Threat and The Evens; Amy Farina (of The Warmers and The Evens); and Joe Lally (of Fugazi and The Messthetics).

Sixteen-year-old rapper Kid LAROI debuts at No. 12 on Emerging Artists, on the strength of his single “Go!” with the late Juice WRLD. The track debuts at No. 19 on Hot Rap Songs, No. 28 on Streaming Songs (11.5 million U.S. streams) and No. 52 on the Hot 100, marking his first career Billboard chart ink.

Plus, singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers debuts at No. 22 on Emerging Artists, thanks to her second solo LP Punisher, released June 18. After one day of tracking (in the week ending June 18), it debuts No. 14 on Heatseekers Albums (3,000 units). The album’s “Kyoto” holds at its No. 22 high on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart, marking Bridgers’ best rank on the survey to date.

Notably, Bridgers has appeared on the Emerging Artists chart in two other iterations: as a member of Boygenius and Better Oblivion Community Center. Boygenius, consisting of Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, reached No. 28 on the chart in November 2018 thanks to the group’s self-titled debut EP and Better Oblivion Community Center, aka Bridgers and Conor Oberst, reached No. 10 in March 2019 powered by the pair’s self-titled debut LP.
