Mamamoo’s Hwasa Covers Harry Styles’ ‘Watermelon Sugar’: Watch the Sweltering New Video

K-pop star Hwasa unveiled a playful solo cover of Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar” on Wednesday (July 22).

For her take on the song of the summer contender, the Mamamoo member stays fairly true to the pop star’s original, recreating the video’s sunshine-y vibes from inside her apartment. “Strawberries on a summer evenin’/ Baby you’re the end of June/ I want your belly and that summer feelin’/ Getting washed away in you/ Breathe me in, breathe me out/ I don’t know if I could ever go without/ Watermelon sugar, high,” she sings while tossing a beach ball in an appropriately watermelon-pink cropped cardigan and surrounded by whirring fans.

Hwasa’s Harry Styles cover arrives just weeks after the release of her debut solo EP María, which peaked at No. 7 on Billboard’s World Albums chart dated July 10 following its release late last month. Additionally, the K-pop idol recently collaborated with Dua Lipa on a bilingual K-pop remix of the star’s 2020 single “Physical,” and  also contributed moody track “Orbit” to the original soundtrack of Korean TV drama The King: Eternal Monarch.

“Watermelon Sugar,” meanwhile, currently sits at No. 7 on the Hot 100, earning the former One Direction-er the third Top Ten hit of his solo career following “Adore You” and 2017’s “Sign of the Times.”
