Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors Celebrate ‘Family’ During Quarantine For Billboard Live At-Home

Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors hosted a Billboard Live At-Home performance Tuesday (Aug. 4) from the frontman’s Nashville studio to raise money for the Equal Justice Initiative.

“Family” seemed to be the central theme of Holcomb’s intimate set, from performing the fan-requested song “You’ll Always Be My Girl” that he originally wrote for his now-eight-year-old daughter to the radio hit aptly titled “Family.”

“I’m sure you’ve been either away from your family ’cause you can’t get to ‘em ’cause you’re sort of stuck where you are quarantining or maybe you’re with your family a bunch,” the Americana singer/guitarist said while introducing the song. “Either way, this is a song about family. I’m one of 28 cousins, big, big family. Lots of people running around, holidays are crazy.”

Off the same 2019 album Dragons, Holcomb later performed the titular track, which has some extraordinary family ties.

“It’s about my grandfather,” he said of the folk song, “and sort of an encounter I had with his ghost.”
