Yomil Reacts to El Dany’s Death in Heart-Wrenching Video: ‘I’m Alone Now With His Spirit By My Side’

Yomil, of Cuban duo Yomil Y El Dany, has reacted to El Dany’s death, posting a heart-wrenching video on Instagram just hours after his colleague’s passing.

“Today I woke up without my battle brother, without my friend,” he said in between tears. “I am trying to be as strong as possible because I have to continue but I will never recover from this loss,” he added, expressing that as a musical duo they’ve shared many memories, achievements, and challenges together.

Daniel Muñoz Borrego, better known as El Dany died Saturday morning (July 18) at a hospital in Havana, sources confirm. He was 31 years old. Billboard could not confirm the cause of death.

“What happened was medical negligence,” Yomil assured in the 10-minute clip. “He entered the hospital a week ago, he had pain for a long time on his legs. He was admitted a week ago for a simple pain. They did many tests and didn’t know what it was. They put him on a 10-day IV treatment in his vein because they supposedly thought he had a problem with his nerves. The last time I visited him at the hospital, he was complaining that he wanted to take pills because his arms hurt. The following day, they gave me the bad news.”

According to Cuban news site CiberCuba and multiple social media posts, El Dany was buried Saturday afternoon in Colón Cemetery in Havana, less than 24 hours after his death.

“There’s a lot of fake news circulating. There’s a family, a brotherhood that’s suffering. There’s a whole country that followed him,” he said. “His mother and wife did not want him to have a vigil for him and that has to be respected.”

He continued: “The only thing I ask for is justice and that the culprits pay for this. No one is going to return him. Now I have to continue on my own. I have to remember all of our great moments together. I have to sing along now with his spirit by my side.”

Together with Yomil (real name Roberto Hidalgo Puentes), Muñoz found fame creating a sound he and Hidalgo dubbed “Trapton,” which the duo once described to Billboard as “our brand. It’s a mix of trap with dembow and reggaetón.”

That brand allowed Yomil y El Dany to enter the charts in 2016 with their album Sobredosis, which spent one week on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart at No. 8. Most recently, the duo teamed up with Lenier, El Chacal, Srta. Dayana, El Micha and Maurofor the single “No Volveré,” which entered the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart two weeks ago and is currently at No. 24.

See the complete video (in Spanish) below, where he also vouches to keep El Dany’s legacy alive.
