Which Musicians Have We Been Tweeting About the Most During the Quarantine?

Though it feels like years, it’s actually been six months since we first went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of us have been baking or making TikToks, and, of course, nurturing our adorable new puppies and kittens. But face it: A lot of us have just been scrolling Twitter endlessly.

The social media platform has been paying attention, and on Tuesday (Sept. 15) they issued their “Twitter From Home” trend report, with a list of what we’ve been listening to, watching and talking about as we wear out the cushions on the couch.

Not surprisingly, pandemic or not, BTS were the most-tweeted about artist, grabbing the No. 1 spot on a list that also included Kanye West (No. 2), Beyoncé (No. 3), Drake (No. 4) and Megan Thee Stallion (No. 5). The top 10 was rounded out by NCT, Bad Bunny, ATEEZ, Cardi B and Harry Styles. (See the full list below.)

Bey’s No. 2 spot was thanks to the viral watch parties spawned by the #HOMEcoming special on Netflix, and then again in July when her Black Is King visual album dropped. Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B heated up the list thanks to Meg’s smash “Savage” and their collab track “WAP,” while Styles made it into the top 10 thanks to his buzzy “Watermelon Sugar” video, with the watermelon emoji up 70 percent over last year.

Some other interesting trends on the list include:

– 9 of the top 10 most tweeted-about musical artists are people of color.

Black Panther and Beyoncé’s Black Is King were the No. 1 and No. 2 films, with The Last Dance and Tiger King holding down the top spots on the TV list. With beauty salons closed, the haircut emoji usage was down 32 percent, but the beard emoji shot up 102 percent.

Check out some of the top lists (based on tweets from March 1, 2020, to Sept. 1, 2020, in the U.S.)
