UBS Secures Naming Rights to OVG’s Belmont Park Arena in New York

Swiss bank UBS has struck an exclusive 20-year naming rights deal with Oak View Group, the New York Islanders, and Sterling Project Development for the $1.5 billion arena being built at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY — just outside of Queens.

The UBS Arena at Belmont Park is projected to open for the 2021-22 National Hockey League season and will include state of the art art amenities, spectacular fan sight lines and some of the best high-end clubs and VIP spaces in live entertainment, explains OVG partner and music manager Irving Azoff.

“It’s going to be a phenomenal, must play building developed with many of the things we learned from the Forum in mind,” Azoff says, citing the top-grossing LA venue that reopened in 2014 and was sold earlier this year to LA Clippers owner Steve Balmer. Azoff said that UBS Arena will be home to a high-end, pre-show social space similar to the Forum Club where celebrities and guests of the artist can come together and celebrate.

“We are going to book every major touring artist for the building and we are working on putting the opening show run together right now,” Azoff said, noting that the facility will book shows in conjunction with Madison Square Garden in Manhattan to route tours in and out of the New York market.

“We are excited to announce this long-term partnership with the New York Islanders and are proud to play a role in creating one of the country’s premier sports and entertainment venues,” says Tom Naratil, co-president UBS Global Wealth Management and president UBS Americas. “The New York City area is home to our Americas headquarters, thousands of our employees, and more UBS clients than any other US market.”

Tim Leiweke, chief executive at Oak View Group and leader of the arena project tells Billboard, “UBS Arena is poised to become a global landmark entertainment and sports destination, leading us to partner with one of the world’s premier brands, UBS. Together we’re eager to deliver on our shared promise of helping reinvigorate the New York economy, creating jobs, supporting a sustainable future, and safely providing an unrivaled, distinctive premium experience for all.”

The arena will be home to the New York Islanders hockey team, who return to Nassau County on Long Island after a number of seasons at the Barclays Arena in Brooklyn.

“UBS Arena will stand as a beacon of strength, resilience, achievement and community, and we look forward to celebrating this milestone with our loyal fans,” said Jon Ledecky, co-Owner of the New York Islanders says. “We’re thrilled to be partners with UBS on this transformational project that will be so important to the New York economy for decades.”

UBS Arena have a significant philanthropic mission to drive economic redevelopment, strengthen the local community and improve college and career readiness y providing programming related to post-secondary education and entrepreneurship.

The facility will be built to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED v4) standards thanks to a team of world-class sustainability experts working to minimize the environmental impact of the venue and become a zero waste facility, utilizing renewable energy sources and reducing water and electricity consumption.

Azoff tells Billboard that UBS Arena will offer a state-of-the art, back-of-house load in/load out space that will significantly reduce the time and the cost of getting large touring productions in and out of the building. The arena’s displays will include the largest scoreboard in New York while customer wait times for concessions and merch will be reduced through emerging POS solutions and payment options, and guests will enjoy 5G cellular and Wi-Fi service up to 50x faster than current networks.
