The Killers to Rock Las Vegas Raiders’ Home Opener at Allegiant Stadium: Exclusive

With a new stadium and NFL team in town, it’s only fitting that Las Vegas’ favorite sons The Killers, fresh off a hit album, Imploding The Mirage, will lead the entertainment for the Las Vegas’ Raiders inaugural season on Sept. 21.

Airing on ESPN and ABC during the team’s Monday Night Football match against the New Orleans Saints at Allegiant Stadium, the band’s halftime performance was pre-recorded on the rooftop of the Nobu Villa at Caesars Palace, overlooking the Strip. Caesars Entertainment is a founding partner of Allegiant Stadium.

“We were lucky to get The Killers,” says Las Vegas Raiders president Marc Badain. “We were honored they were willing to do it. We’ve been looking forward to this for a long time and obviously had to be very flexible with what’s been going on the last six months. We didn’t know what the game was going to look like. We didn’t know what was going to be allowed or not allowed.”

Over the last decade-plus, The Killers have become Las Vegas’ house band for big openings. In 2009, they christened the new Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and in 2016, T-Mobile Arena. In 2010, frontman Brandon Flowers headlined the first night of The Cosmopolitan.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Raiders games will be missing 65,000 fans in those shiny new stadium seats but according to Badain they will still have the major entertainment spectacle the world expects from Las Vegas.

“This is an indicator of what we’re planning to do at all of our games. We want these games to be a really big deal. This is the sports and entertainment capital of the world,” Badain says. “We have to blend those two elements and every game has to match up to what is expected. The NFL in Las Vegas, is a spectacle, an incredible experience for both attendees and 15 million plus people every week around the country who are going to watch the game on TV. This market is being heavily impacted by [the pandemic] so if we can keep the Vegas entertainment scene top of mind, and embrace those who have made this town what it is—then that’s what we’ll do.”
