Taylor Swift broke yet another major record

This week, as Swift’s Folklore album returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, she not only collected a seventh nonconsecutive week atop the tally, but surpassed Whitney Houston’s longstanding record (among women) for the most cumulative weeks at No. 1, across all of her chart-topping albums. Congrats, Tay!

BTS returned to the top of the Hot 100

“Dynamite” was back on top for a third week! As Billboard’s Gary Trust reports, “Dynamite” returned “to No. 1 from the runner-up spot on the strength of 14 million U.S. streams (up 11%) and 153,000 downloads sold (up 96%) in the week ending Sept. 24, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It also drew 20.8 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 8%) in the week ending Sept. 27.”

Plus, Justin Bieber’s “Holy,” featuring Chance the Rapper, debuted at No. 3 on the chart.

Mariah Carey released her memoir

Mariah Carey, alt rock star? It almost could have been! In her new memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, out now, the singer writes that she worked on a rock album with the band Chick around the time period of the Daydream sessions. “I totally looked forward to doing my alter-ego band sessions after Daydream each night,” she says.

The 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards nominations were announced

The awards keep coming! The nominees for the 15th annual BET Hip Hop Awards were revealed on Tuesday (Sept. 29), and DaBaby is the top nominee for with 12 nods. Roddy Ricch is a close runner-up, with 11, while Megan Thee Stallion and Drake are tied for third place (eight nods each). Plus, Future received six nods, Lil Baby grabbed four, and Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, Travis Scott and Mustard each received three.

And the 2020 Latin Grammys nominations were revealed

Three reggaetón stars — J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Ozuna — lead the list of nominations, which were also announced on Tuesday (Sept. 29). Billboard’s Leila Cobo comments that “reggaetón, long under-represented or downright ignored in the main categories of the Latin Grammys, seems to finally be seeing its day of reckoning.” Anuel, Kany García, Camilo and many more also landed nods!

BTS took over The Tonight Show all week

When they weren’t busy breaking chart records, BTS treated fans to new content each weekday in the form of their The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon takeover! From performances of “Idol” and “Dynamite” to interviews where they teased the upcoming deluxe edition of their BE album, it was an entertaining week, to say the least.

Performers for the 2020 Billboard Music Awards were announced

BTS, Demi Lovato, Sia, Alicia Keys, Luke Combs, Bad Bunny and Post Malone will all be performing at the 2020 event, taking place on Oct. 14! Expect more performers to be announced as the awards show’s big day draws closer, but for now, here’s the latest info.

Carlos Vives will be honored at the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Vives will receive the Billboard Hall of Fame Award at the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards, set to take place on Oct. 21. The hitmaker, known for anthems like “La Gota Fría” and “Fruta Fresca,” will be recognized both for his career as a singer-songwriter, and for his multifaceted career as a host, actor and philanthropist.

2020 CMT Music Awards performers were announced

In yet another piece of awards show news, Ashley McBryde, Dan + Shay, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan and Maren Morris will all perform at the 2020 CMTs on Oct. 21. This year’s show will consist of “outdoor performances in and around Music City,” according to CMT — intriguing!

Mika’s Beirut benefit concert raised over €1m for the people of Lebanon

Following the deadly blast at the city’s port in August, the Lebanese-born artist performed a benefit concert that was live streamed around the world. The event raised more than 1 million euros from ticket sales, sponsors and members of the public donating via GoFundMe, according to a release, and the money will be split between the Lebanese Red Cross and Save the Children.

“This has been a project that was born out of and made possible by love, and a huge amount of collaboration with friends and many new friends made in the process,” Mika said in a statement. Learn more here.

Latin Music Week is right around the corner (Oct. 20-23), and more artists have been announced as panelists!
