Run the Jewels are teaming with Adult Swim and Ben & Jerry’s for an Oct. 10 broadcast of the hip-hop duo performing their RTJ4 album in its entirety to encourage people to vote. The event, “Holy Calamavote,” will air commercial-free at midnight ET on Adult Swim.
“With some help from @BenandJerrys, we’re celebrating your right to vote by doing our first-ever performance of #RTJ4 on @AdultSwim – October 10. Pledge to vote this November by texting RTJ2020 to 40649 or go to the link in bio. Plot. Plan. Strategize. Organize. Mobilize. #HolyCalamavote.”
The first-ever broadcast musical performance on Adult Swim is intended to encourage fans to vote in the presidential election on Nov. 3.
“We’re proud to be a part of this initiative to encourage and enable voting and can’t wait to finally perform our album RTJ4. This will be fun,” said Killer Mike and El-P in a statement. Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim added, “Adult Swim is honored to be a part of this cultural moment and to partner with Run The Jewels and Ben & Jerry’s to present the first performance of the acclaimed RTJ4 album. We hope this special event encourages our fans to make a plan and exercise their Constitutional right to vote.”
The performance will also be streamed on Adultswim.com and immediately following the broadcast fans can watch it again on the Adult Swim YouTube channel, where they will also have a chance to donate to the ACLU. RTJ’s Killer Mike has spent much of the COVID-19 lockdown speaking out about police brutality, including an impassioned plea to tamp down sometimes violent protests that spread across the nation in the wake of police-caused death of George Floyd.
