EDM producer Nick Miller, p.k.a. Illenium, has signed a worldwide publishing deal with Reservoir that encompasses his full catalog and future works, including the new single “Nightlight” (his first since signing a record deal with 12Tone). Reservoir would not confirm whether the deal was an administration, co-publishing or publishing agreement.
Illenium’s 2020 album, Ascend, peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. It included the singles “Good Things Fall Apart” with Jon Bellion, “Takeaway” feat. Lennon Stella with The Chainsmokers and “Take You Down.” The album’s success inspired a remix LP of his tracks reimagined by artists including Tiësto, 3LAU and Travis Barker, as well as an EP of reworked songs inspired by his live shows.
Independent publishers Phrased Differently and Budde Music have partnered on an exclusive joint venture music publishing business in what is being billed as an “A&R focused collaboration.” Under the terms of the “multi-million pound” deal, Budde Music acquired Cloud 9’s stake in Phrased Differently and will merge its existing London operation into the new venture.
The partnership will allow Phrased Differently, which was founded by Hiten Bharadia and boasts an A&R team led by Dan Edu, to expand its publishing roster as well as the creative services it offers to the company’s existing clients.
“Phrased Differently and the work that Hiten, Dan and the team have put into building the company and developing their writers has been truly fascinating for me to watch over the past year,” said Budde Music CEO Benjamin Budde. “I’ve always respected Hiten for his incredible ear for songs and focus for talented songwriters. Reservoir has acquired Nashville-based, synch-focused original music company Sorted Noise’s catalog of masters and publishing copyrights. As part of the agreement, Sorted Noise will run synch-centric songwriting bootcamps featuring Reservoir songwriters, as well as camps designed to create new covers of classic Reservoir catalog copyrights.
Sorted Noise, which was founded in 2008, is run by Josh Collum, Jason Collum and Perrin Lamb. It is known for its successful synch bootcamps in Nashville, which boast a more than 70% success rate in placing music in film, TV and advertising campaigns. Music resulting from the camps have been featured in shows including Breaking Bad, Mad Men, This Is Us, Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, Glee and American Horror Story and in ads for brands such as Chase, IKEA, DKNY, HBO and Nutella.
Participants slated to take part in upcoming camps include Reservoir clients such as Sam Sumser, WatchTheDuck, Black Grapefruit and Emily Earle. There are additional plans to expand camps to London, Copenhagen and other locations next year.

Sony/ATV has struck a deal to administer the overseas publishing rights for Divo Music, a leading digital media and music distribution and publishing company in India.
Under the agreement, Sony/ATV will provide publishing and administration services to Divo Music’s community of songwriters, composers and lyricists and deliver new opportunities for their works worldwide.
“We are glad to partner with Sony/ATV to help us with our music monetization on the publishing side of the business,” said Divo Music director and founder Shahir Muneer. “Using their strong tech capabilities and our operational and content strengths we will be able to effectively generate a more streamlined approach to collecting our royalties from outside India. And the major benefactor won’t be just our organization but all the music directors and lyricists who are part of those musical works, as they will effectively get royalties faster and more comprehensively which otherwise may have been not reaching them.”
Grammy-nominated English songwriter-producer Jake Gosling has signed a publishing deal with Concord encompassing his future works.
Over the course of his career, Gosling has worked with A-list artists including Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes, One Direction and Major Lazer. He additionally runs the production company Sticky Studios in the U.K. and is currently working with artists such as Sam Fischer, Ben Platt and Emeli Sande.
Gosling worked on Ed Sheeran’s debut album, +, on which he co-write hit singles such as “Lego House.” He later garnered a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2015 Grammys for his work as lead producer on Sheeran’s album X. The following year, he was nominated for Record of the Year for his production on the Sheeran single “Thinking Out Loud.” He also worked on One Direction’s first two albums, Mendes’ sophomore album Illuminate and Shania Twain’s Now.
Kobalt has struck a global publishing deal with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, lyricist and composer Michael R. Jackson. The agreement includes publishing administration, creative services and sync for Jackson’s entire catalog and future works.
Jackson won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in May for his critically-acclaimed musical A Strange Loop. The production also won him a New York Drama Critics Circle Award, the Lambda Literary Award for Drama, two Drama Desk Awards and two Obie Awards, among other honors.
Jackson’s work as a songwriter has been performed at venues including the Public Theatre, Joe’s Pub and the National Alliance Music Theatre.
Reach Music Publishing has acquired the full publisher and partial writers’ share of songwriter-producer Young Fyre’s full catalog in a deal that includes global administration rights.
Reach Music served as worldwide publishing administrator of Young Fyre’s catalog for nearly a decade when he was signed to T-Pain’s publishing company Nappy Boy Music, in partnership with Chase Music Publishing. Reach was given the opportunity to acquire the catalog over the summer, with the deal closing at the beginning of September.
Sony/ATV Nashville has signed rising country singer-songwriter Filmore to a global publishing deal. The agreement includes a portion of his catalog, including the tracks “Blue Skies” and “Other Girl,” as well as future works.
Filmore is slated to release his Zach Abend-produced debut album, State I’m In, on Sept. 25. He has released several EPs, including 2016’s Proof, and scored a breakthrough with 2018’s “Slower.”
Olivia Knight, the artist known as poutyface, has signed a global co-publishing deal with Warner Chappell. The agreement covers her full catalog and future works.
Knight gained significant exposure thanks to the burgeoning music app Voisey, which allows users to record short videos using professional vocal effects and multi track vocals over backing tracks uploaded by music producers. After her original content on the platform spread widely on Facebook and Instagram, Voisey brought Knight to the attention of Platoon founder and Voisey investor Denzyl Fiegelson, who flew her to London last year to work on new material with several collaborators.
Knight has also signed a global recording contract with Island Records.
Technology company Vydia has signed a global administration deal with World of Dance Records, the newly established full-service record label and artistic brand management company from the World of Dance organization behind the NBC competition series of the same name. Vydia will service all World of Dance Records releases and U-Jam dance fitness compilations by providing the label with the infrastructure to manage publishing splits, rights and payments for its full catalog.
