Proximity & Former Cirque du Soleil Director Announce a New Series of Global Dance Shows: Exclusive

The world of dance music has always erred toward the fantastical, and now, a new online show series is turning up the dials on whimsy and innovation even higher.

On Wednesday (July 29), online dance music platform Proximity is announcing a partnership with Montraa, the new company from Omar Zabian, the former Cirque du Soleil Director of Global Events and Sr. Director Strategic Development and Partnership.

Together, the companies will produce and stream shows from a variety of A-list dance artists performing at various wonders of the world. Called One, these shows will focus on storytelling, music, dance and exotic locations. Viewers can expect the big sounds and big production inspired by the global phenomenon that is Cirque du Soleil.

“[The events] will showcase diversity, culture, and unity across the unique international sites that we film at,” Proximity Founder Blake Coppelson tells Billboard.

Artists and sites will be announced in the coming months, with the events to stream on Proximity in Q4 of 2020 and Q1 of 2021. The shows will invest major capital into productions featuring dance and acrobatics, along with each piece tailored to each artist and venue. Shows will be performed in conjunction with new album releases from each producer.

With nearly nine million YouTube subscribers, Proximity is a major distributor of dance related content. The company was also a co-producer of the successful Digital Mirage livestreams, which happened in April and June with lineups that included Alison Wonderland, Zhu, Anna Lunoe, Kaskade, Griz and many more.

Based in Montreal, Montraa calls itself a “global alliance strategic hub that focuses on curating experiences.” The company is led by Zabian, who’s had more than a decade in the field of entertainment strategy.
