Odesza and Golden Features made waves this past April, when they announced their new collaborative project, Bronson.
The two acts, based in Seattle (Odesza) and Australia (Golden Features) first connected over FaceTime three years back, and in the time since have passed files across time, space and the Pacific Ocean while making the debut Bronson album.
The third track of that LP is out today (June 30) and adds another big name into the mix via Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Titled “Dawn”, the new song is both pretty and powerful, possessing the same emotive, spiritually leaning vibe that defines much of Odesza’s catalog, with TEED’s falsetto vocals adding a truly celestial quality to the production. Listen to “Dawn” below.
“Creatively, we respect Orlando (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) so much,” Odesza is quoted in a statement. “When we started the writing process for ‘Dawn’, it was with the intent to fill in the gap of what was missing on the record. We came to him with an initial idea for the track, and in turn, he listened to parts of the record, made sense of its themes both sonically and conceptually and started to write over what became what ‘Dawn’ is now.”
“Not only do the lyrics provide this renewed sense of hope,” the statement continues, “but his vocals compliment the tone and energy of the song perfectly – “Dawn” is a song meant to take you on a journey and explore various concepts and emotions of the record. We couldn’t think of a more fitting song to end the album with.”
Originally slated for release on July 17, the eponymous Bronson LP is now coming on August 7 via Ninja Tune and Odesza’s Foreign Family Collective label. The album also includes features from Gallant and Lau.ra, of the British rock act Ultraísta.
