Martin Gore Unleashes ‘The Third Chimpanzee EP’: Stream It Now

Martin Gore has been out the spotlight a short while, but he’s back and he’s going it alone.

The British songwriter, singer and keyboardist is a founding member of Depeche Mode, a recent inductee into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and whose most recent album, 2017’s Spirit, went in at No. 5 in the U.S. and U.K.

Later this year, Gore celebrates a personal milestone – a birthday ending in a zero. But first, the British all-rounder unleashes The Third Chimpanzee EP, a five-track soundscape of industrial groans, beats, dark layered synths, and precisely no vocals.

It’s led by the track “Howler,” the official music video for which is below. “I resynthesized some vocals that almost sounded human, but not quite,” Gore says of the new release. “That’s why I decided to name the track after a monkey. I thought that would be a good theme to carry on with the rest of the tracks.”

As its name would suggest, The Third Chimpanzee is Gore’s third solo LP, coming after Counterfeit (from 2003) and MG (2015).
