Mariah Carey Shares Cryptic Teaser For 30th Anniversary Celebration of Debut Album

The festive moment has finally arrived, dahhlings! On Tuesday (July 14), Mariah Carey announced her plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her self-titled debut album.

“MC30…Every Friday,” the legend captioned the Instagram video, which features a montage of music video clips, album artwork, live performances and more as the iconic opening riff from 1995’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard-assisted “Fantasy” remix plays in the background.

While it’s unclear exactly what kinds of surprises and rarities Carey has in store for her Lambs, the announcement comes a month after she chose to postpone her initial plans for the celebration to focus on the country’s fight for racial equity amid the Black Lives Matter movement. In conjunction with the milestone, Mimi is also prepping the release of her first-ever memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, which is set to hit shelves Sept. 29.

Released on June 12 1990, the singer’s debut album rocketed to the top of the charts, spawning four consecutive No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 including “Vision of Love,” “Love Takes Time,” “Someday” and “I Don’t Want to Cry.” Mariah Carey went on to spend 11 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified nine-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
