Lin-Manuel Miranda ‘Literally Gave Two F–s’ About Swearing in ‘Hamilton’ Before Musical Lands on Disney+

Before Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda appears as Alexander Hamilton on Broadway fans’ screens when the musical debuts on Disney+, he had some choice, uncensored words to say about it.

One Hamilfan on Twitter inquired if some iconic lines had to be cut to abide by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) language rule for its PG-13 rating, which only permits one f-bomb.

Miranda responded in a tweet today (June 22) that during the televised version of the full Tony award-winning musical, there wouldn’t be “more than 1 utterance of ‘F—‘” to avoid classifying it as an R-rated production. “We have 3 ‘F—s’ in our show. So…” he continued before moving down his threaded message.

“…I literally gave two f—s so the kids could see it: 1. In Yorktown, there’s a mute over ‘I get the f—  back up again’ 2. ‘Southern *record scratch*kin’ Democratic Republicans,’” he explained of the on-screen changes. “You can sing whatEVER you like at home (even sync up the album)! Love you. Enjoy.”

The last f-bomb in Hamilton that Miranda plans to keep in for the Disney+ movie lands in the middle of the “Say No to This” old-school slow jam when he sings, “You see, that was my wife who you decided to (fuuuu)” about his character’s affair with Maria Reynolds (played by Jasmine Cephas Jones).

Hamilton officially arrives on the Disney+ streaming platform on July 3.
