If you’re yearning for the embrace of your beloved no thanks to the seemingly endless pandemic, Kelly Clarkson just put all those feels into her latest Kellyoke cover by taking on beloved classic “Unchained Melody” on The Kelly Clarkson Show Thursday (Jan. 28).
As the singer began the aching tune, the darkened stage appeared, lit only with the softest of light bulbs to cast a romantic glow.
“Ohhh, my love, my darling/ I’ve hungered for your touch/ A long, lonely time/ And time, goes by so slowly/ And time can do so much,” she croons gently, eyes closed, before belting, “Are you still mine?/ I need your love/ Oooh I really need your love/ God speed your love to me.”
The song was originally written for the 1955 film Unchained. The Righteous Brothers’ version of “Unchained Melody” a decade later has since become the most popular and recognized take. The song soared to new heights in 1990, when it was used to soundtrack the iconic pottery scene in Ghost featuring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. A few months after the movie’s July release, the song peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 100 in October.
Other artists who have covered “Unchained Melody” include Elvis Presley, LeAnn Rimes, Cyndi Lauper, U2 and more.
