Kelly Clarkson, Josh Groban & More Help Raise $700K for Project Angel Food’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund

Virtual performances by Kelly Clarkson, Josh Groban, Annie Lennox, CeeLo Green and more during a KTLA telethon helped bring in about $700,000 for Project Angel Food’s COVID-19 emergency fund.

The “Lead with Love: Project Angel Food Emergency Telethon” program, which aired on KTLA 5 on Saturday night (June 27) from 7 to 9 p.m., raised about $701,000 as of Sunday, according to the project’s website, where donations are still welcome.

“Lead With Love” was hosted by KTLA’s Jessica Holmes with Sheryl Lee Ralph and Eric McCormack and also featured brief appearances by several stars, including Elton John and husband David Furnish, who encouraged viewers to show their support.

“We have always worked to make sure the most vulnerable people in the world are protected and cared for with love and compassion. We have supported Project Angel Food through the [Elton John AIDS] foundation before, and we are proud to support ‘Lead With Love,’” John said. “For those watching from home, Project Angel Food needs your help urgently to keep doing what they do: serve others.”

Musical performances included Clarkson (with a cover of U2’s “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”), Groban (“Lullaby”), Lennox (“Walking on Broken Glass”), Green (“Lead Me”), Billy Idol (“To Be a Lover”), Kristin Chenoweth (“Angels Among Us”), Deborah Cox (“Greatest Love of All”) and Juan Pablo di Pace (“Without You”).

Project Angel Food first launched in 1989 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and, 30 years later, is continuing to serve Los Angeles’ diverse community during the coronavirus pandemic. The organization has been cooking and delivering medically-tailored meals, free of charge, to people with life-threatening illnesses who are at high risk for COVID-19. Throughout the past two months, Project Angel Food has been serving 2,000 people each day.
