James Corden Gets Heckled By Muppets, Then Gets a ‘Little Help’ From His Furry Friends

It’s been a long, lonely few months for James Corden doing his Late Late Show by himself from his garage. He’s got bandleader Reggie Watts to keep him company from afar, but it’s not the same thing doing a late night show without a studio audience. So, on Thursday night (June 25), Corden noted that a new company is providing virtual audiences to performers to make their gigs feel more real.

James gave it a shot, unfortunately, his audience consisted of just two: the Muppets’ Statler and Waldorf, those infamously sour-pussed haters. “Oh look, he really is in the garage,” Statler quipped, as Waldorf added, “Yeah, but his ratings are still in the basement.” The hits kept coming, as Corden attempted to do his monologue with the tyrannical twosome raining down insult after insult.

Corden was saved, however, by two of the nicest Muppets when Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear showed up to bail him out. They weren’t really feeling the jokes either, so they suggested a musical number instead. And then, as if by fuzzy magic, things got a lot better when Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band joined Watts and his crew as they cranked up the Beatles “With a Little Help From My Friends.”

Miss Piggy, Swedish Chef, Animal, Gonzo and the gang backed up Reggie and James as they took turns on the mic and suddenly the garage seemed a lot less lonely.
