In Celebration of Rubén Blades’ Birthday, We’re Looking Back at His Most-Watched Music Videos

In the midst of his quarantine birthday, Rubén Blades penned a heartfelt message to his social media followers on Thursday (July 16).

“I send hugs to people who have written and/or called me wishing me a happy birthday. Your consideration and attention move me,” he noted, emphasizing that it’s a blessing to enjoy his health during these difficult times.

“Today, I think of the more than nine hundred Panamanians who will not be able to celebrate another name day because of the pandemic, and of the sick in Panama and all of America,” he added. “My wish for you to regain your health soon unites with my appreciation for the kindness and opportunities received. It is a happiness to be able to continue being active and producing, thank God!”

With a prolific career that spans nearly five decades, Blades is a Panamanian musician, singer, composer, and actor, who’s known for his Afro-Cuban, salsa, and Latin jazz fusions as heard in timeless songs such as the Willie Colon-assisted “Pedro Navaja.”
