‘Glee’ Star Heather Morris Asks to Join Search for Naya Rivera: ‘We Are Feeling Helpless’

Glee actress Heather Morris wants to join the search for her friend and former co-star Naya Rivera, who went missing several days ago at a lake in Southern California.

Morris, who portrayed Brittany S. Piece on the Fox musical comedy series, took to social media on Sunday (July 12) to ask law enforcement in Ventura County how she can help in the search. Rivera disappeared on July 8 during a boating trip with her 4-year-old son at Lake Piru, which is located about 50 miles north of Los Angeles.

“I’m trying to conduct an on foot search and rescue mission along with a small group of friends at Lake Piru,” Morris tweeted at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. “I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless and want to help in any way. I have left a message with the department of Rescue and Air today, and I will call again tomorrow. Thank you.”

A search for the 33-year-old actress, whose breakthrough and most notable role was Santana Lopez on Glee, has been ongoing since Wednesday. Authorities have stated that they believe Rivera drowned in Lake Piru, calling it a “tragic accident,” and have expressed their condolences to the family and fans.

“Thank you to the Tulare County, Los Angeles County, San Louis Obisbo, and all who are working to tirelessly right now in the search and recovery of our Naya,” Morris tweeted on Thursday.

Rivera’s son, whose father is actor Ryan Dorsey, was reported to be unharmed. The child told investigators that he and his mother had been swimming in the lake, and that he got back in the boat, but Rivera did not.

Other celebrities have also been sharing their prayers for Rivera on social media, saying they hope the actress is found alive and well. Demi Lovato posted a photo of a candle on her Instagram story and asked fans to “Please pray for @nayarivera to be found safe and sound” and Bebe Rexha tweeted, “Dear God. Please help us find Naya.”

Following her stint on Glee, Rivera had a recurring role on the Lifetime series Devious Maids, and most recently starred opposite Ne-Yo on the TV version of Step Up, which recently moved from YouTube to Starz for its second season.
