For King & Country, Kirk Franklin & Tori Kelly Get ‘Together’ Atop Christian Airplay Chart

For King & Country, the duo comprising brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, crowns Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart as “Together,” with Kirk Franklin and Tori Kelly, rises 3-1 on the list dated Aug. 1.

In the tracking week ending July 26, the song increased by 9 percent to 9.2 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

“Together,” which is backed with gospel choir vocals, is a call-to-arms to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Smallbone brothers wrote it with another pair of siblings, Ran and Ricky Jackson, as well as Josh Kerr and Franklin.

For King & Country rings up its seventh Christian Airplay leader and fourth in a row among proper single. It follows “Burn the Ships,” which led for five weeks starting this January; “God Only Knows,” which ruled for 10 weeks beginning in April 2019; and “joy.,” which reigned for four frames starting in August 2018.

For gospel superstar Franklin, “Together” marks his first Christian Airplay No. 1 among three appearances. He reached No. 2 as featured on TobyMac’s “Lose My Soul,” also featuring Mandisa, in 2008, and No. 18 as featured on Kelly’s “Never Alone” in December 2018. On Gospel Airplay, Franklin has scored seven No. 1s among 12 top 10s.

Kelly, who has scored multi-genre success, also earns her first leader on Christian Airplay. “Together” is likewise her third entry, following “Never Alone” and her featured turn on Lecrae’s “I’ll Find You” (No. 50, February 2018).

“Luke and I are so encouraged that a collaboration from the pop princess, Tori Kelly; the Godfather of Gospel, Kirk Franklin; and us, an Australian duo, continues to find ways to bring people ‘together,’ ” Joel Smallbone tells Billboard. “The fact that this is the first time Kirk and Tori have been part of a No. 1 song on the Christian Airplay chart is special to us, to say the least.”

“I’m so glad that For King & Country reached out to me to be part of this incredible moment in history,” shares Franklin. “This song is a reflection of what happens when we come ‘together.’ “

MORE THAN ‘ALRIGHT’ Fred Hammond notches his third No. 1 on Gospel Airplay as “Alright” climbs 4-1 (up 15 percent in weekly plays).

“Alright” is Hammond’s first No. 1 since “I Feel Good” led for a week in April 2012. He first dominated with “They Will Wait” for 13 frames starting in December 2009.
