DaBaby and Roddy Ricch’s ‘Rockstar’ Rules Rhythmic Radio

DaBaby collects his second No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Songs airplay chart — and first with lead billing — as “Rockstar” ascends from the runner-up rank on the list dated July 4. The single, which features Roddy Ricch, rises through a 3% boost in plays in the week ending June 28, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

DaBaby, born Jonathan Kirk, previously ruled Rhythmic Songs with a guest spot on Post Malone’s “Enemies,” which topped the chart for two weeks last November. As a lead act, he’d maxed out at No. 2 twice, for his breakout hit “Suge” in July 2019 and “Bop” this February.

Featured act Roddy Ricch, meanwhile, lands a fourth Rhythmic No. 1 with “Rockstar.” All four leaders have arrived in just over the last six months, cementing his status as one of the radio format’s hottest acts. Before “Rockstar,” the 21-year-old scored chart-toppers with “Ballin’,” a collaboration with Mustard (a two-week champ in December 2019), “The Box” (six weeks, February-April) and “High Fashion,” featuring Mustard (one week in June).

Such is Roddy Ricch’s Rhythmic stronghold that the rapper claims three songs in the top 10 for a fifth consecutive week. On the latest chart, “Rockstar” conquers the top slot, “Fashion” sits at No. 5 and “The Box” occupies No. 10. He remains only one of 12 acts to pull a Rhythmic top 10 triple play since the chart’s launch in 1992.

Elsewhere, “Rockstar,” holds at No. 3 on Rap Airplay, though it improves by 16% in audience in the week ending June 28 and cracks the top 10 of R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay with a 12-8 move (up 26% to 13.3 million in audience). The gains there, plus Rhythmic improvements, help it climb 14-12 on the all-genre Radio Songs list.

“Rockstar,” the Billboard Hot 100’s reigning champ, appears on DaBaby’s latest album, Blame It On Baby, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts in May.
