Cannons collect their first No. 1 in their first visit to Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart with “Fire for You,” which rises 2-1 on the Jan. 30-dated ranking.
The Los Angeles-based trio is the second act to score an initial leader so far in 2021, after I Dont Know How But They Found Me topped the Jan. 16-dated list with “Leave Me Alone.”
Cannons halt the reign of All Time Low’s “Monsters,” featuring Blackbear, at 18 nonconsecutive weeks, the third-longest command in the chart’s three-decade history alongside Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender”; only Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still” (20 weeks) and Muse’s “Madness” (19) have led longer.
“Fire for You” concurrently breaks into the top 10 on Adult Alternative Airplay (13-10), where it’s also Cannons’ first entry. On the all-rock-format Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, the song remains at its No. 3 high with 4.9 million audience impressions, according to MRC Data.
Initially released in 2019, “Fire for You” was sparked by its usage in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever in May 2020, an appearance that prompted it to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind, that month.
