Alicia Keys Performs New Song ‘Love Looks Better’ & ‘No One’ at 2020 NFL Kickoff

Alicia Keys took the socially-distanced stage on Thursday (Sept. 10) to kick off the 2020 NFL season, and performed a moving rendition of her 2007 hit, “No One.”

Decked in a sparkling blue denim jacket and nodding to New York culture in high-heeled Timbs, the singer belted the song with her band on instrumentals, as rain poured down on the scene. She and her band ended the set by raising their fists in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

She followed it up with a performance of her new song “Love Looks Better,” with graphics supporting the Black community on the screen behind her. At the conclusion, the screen flashed the word “Vote.”

Earlier in the day, Keys revealed her reasoning for performing for the NFL despite racial issues in the league recently. The performance tied into an announcement that the league will be contributing to a new $1 billion endowment fund aimed at supporting Black businesses and communities.

The new fund will comes amid the global coronavirus pandemic and the protests against systemic racism and injustice that have erupted following the police killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and others in the U.S. in recent months.

“We are already seeing the blatant injustices that are going on around us,” Keys told Billboard. “As an artist, I’m always thinking about how can I use my platform to further racial equity. This fund is one of the answers and our goal is to empower Black America through investing in Black businesses, Black investors, institutions, entrepreneurs, schools and banks in a way to create sustainable solutions.”
