‘AGT’ Contestant Nolan Neal Turns Disco Classic Into Country Gold: Watch

Nolan Neal is full of surprises.

The 39-year-old from Nashville, TN opened up with his inspirational story when he auditioned on America’s Got Talent.

Neal, standing before the judges, explained how his father had taken his own life. A downward spiral followed, and Neal struggled with substance abuse. But he has recovered and come back stronger than ever.

On Tuesday night (July 28), he let his artistry tell the story. Performing at a campfire with an acoustic guitar, he spun Candi Staton’s disco-era classic “You’ve Got The Love” into a robust country song.

The judges loved what they saw and heard. “You have a great sound in your voice and it stirs you emotionally,” enthused Howie Mandel.

“I think you’ve got great taste,” noted Simon Cowell. “You really did make it your own. You made it sound very current.”

Nolan made the cut and he progresses to the live rounds.
